Private-jet firms adapt to turbulent times

Despite economic hurdles for private aviation, NetJets is proceeding with construction of a $21 million headquarters at Port Columbus. The bumpy road to recovery for private-aviation firms such as NetJets has developed another hurdle in recent weeks: a possibility of less-friendly tax breaks.
 

NetJets’ new chief has been learning fast

It’s been a busy few days for Jordan Hansell, but he’s not worried about taking the reins at NetJets. Hansell, who was promoted to president in November, was thrown into the top job at the Columbus-based private aviation company on Wednesday when Chairman and CEO David L. Sokol quit unexpectedly from parent company Berkshire Hathaway.

Sources Say NetJets To Thrive After Surprise Sokol Exit

Yesterday’s announcement that NetJets chairman and CEO David Sokol resigned from his post at that company and two other Berkshire Hathaway-owned firms took the aviation industry, Wall Street and just about everyone else by surprise. Sokol notably turned NetJets around, yet his elimination of redundant aircraft and personnel at the top from the fractional-jet provider was not without its critics.
